The S.S. Willis B. Boyer exists to serve
the general community, especially in the following ways:
- To restore and preserve the historic ship,
the last exactly like her of the Great Lakes.
- To be a center of Great Lakes Education, serving
schools in a 25-county area by offering tours
and programs.
- To be a tourist attraction benefiting the
Greater Toledo Area economy by attracting visitors
from throughout the U.S., Canada, and the world.
- To be a unique meeting and gathering place
for business, leisure, entertainment, social,
and cultural events.
- To be a practice site for emergency services,
especially the Toledo Fire Department and the
U.S. Coast Guard, who are jointly responsible
for ship safety in the Port of Toledo.
